Four days ago, we started our Hyderabad journey by climbing the mighty Golconda Fort.

Yesterday evening, we watched the Sun slowly disappear behind Durgam Cheruvu while enjoying the modern side of the city.

Today, history takes a back seat.

Reality does too.

Welcome to Ramoji Film City, where every street has a story, every palace hides a secret and every corner makes you wonder whether you are standing inside a real city or on a movie set.

Start Early

Today’s journey begins much earlier than the previous day.

If you are staying near Secunderabad, I would recommend taking the official Ramoji Film City coach from JBS (Jubilee Bus Station).

Book your tickets in advance, especially during weekends and holidays. The coach is comfortable and saves you the trouble of arranging transport to and from the film city.

The drive takes around an hour and a half, depending on traffic. Before long, the massive entrance gate appears in front of you.

Trust me.

The excitement begins long before you enter.

A Few Things You Should Carry

Before getting into the coach, buy two or three bottles of drinking water.

Carry a cap.

Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Most importantly, keep a few light snacks like biscuits or chocolates in your backpack.

Food is available inside the film city, but the choices are limited and the prices are noticeably higher than in the city.

Another thing to remember is that once you enter, you are expected to complete the day’s circuit before leaving. There is so much to see that stepping out halfway is neither practical nor worthwhile.

Think of it as a full-day adventure.

Welcome to a City Built for Dreams

As the coach enters the enormous campus, one thing immediately becomes clear.

This is not just a film studio.

It is a world built entirely from imagination.

Spread over thousands of acres, Ramoji Film City is recognised as one of the world’s largest integrated film studios. Every road, every building and every garden has been designed to transform itself into whatever a filmmaker dreams of creating.

One moment, you are standing in front of a royal palace. A few minutes later, you are walking through an airport. Then suddenly, you find yourself inside a bustling market. Cinema has a wonderful habit of making us believe impossible things. Ramoji Film City lets you see how that magic is created.

Behind the Magic of Indian Cinema

One of the most fascinating experiences here is discovering how the same building can become completely different locations with just a change of camera angle.

A street that looks like a North Indian town from one side suddenly becomes a South Indian neighbourhood from another.

A palace façade may hide office rooms behind it. A hospital may actually be a hotel. You begin to realise that films are as much about imagination as they are about storytelling. Even if you are not a movie enthusiast, it is impossible not to admire the creativity involved.

Walking Through the World of Epics

One of my favourite sections was the magnificent sets inspired by the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

The towering palaces, grand courtyards and beautifully crafted temples transport you into the world of Indian mythology.

Whether you grew up listening to these stories from your grandparents or watched them on television, walking through these sets brings back a wonderful sense of nostalgia.

For a few moments, you forget that they were built for cameras. They feel surprisingly real.

The World of Baahubali

If you enjoyed Baahubali, prepare yourself for another memorable experience.

Several grand sets inspired by the film allow visitors to relive the scale and imagination that made the movie famous across the world.

Massive gateways. Royal courts. Monumental staircases. Every corner reminds you why the film became a visual spectacle.

Naturally, this is also one of the most photographed sections of the entire park. Take your time here.

This is where your camera will probably work harder than your feet.

All Aboard the Chennai Express

Another place that brought a smile to my face was the railway station inspired by Chennai Express.

Standing beside the train instantly reminded me of Shah Rukh Khan’s unforgettable journey across South India.

Whether or not you are a Bollywood fan, the colourful coaches and familiar surroundings make for wonderful feeling.

Sometimes, a single movie is enough to make an ordinary train unforgettable.

Live Shows and Movie Magic

Throughout the day, several live performances keep the atmosphere lively.

Depending on the schedule, you may watch stunt demonstrations, dance performances or filmmaking presentations explaining how special effects are created.

Do spend some time watching these shows.

They are entertaining, informative and offer a fascinating glimpse into the effort that goes into making a movie.

Children seem to love them. Adults enjoy them just as much.

Take Your Time

One mistake many visitors make is trying to rush through the attractions.

Don’t.

There is no prize for finishing first. Sit under a tree whenever you feel tired. Have an ice cream. Browse the souvenir shops. Watch families posing for photographs.

Sometimes, the happiest memories come from moments that were never part of the itinerary.

A Day That Brings Out the Child in You

By late afternoon, your legs may begin protesting once again. Yet your mind probably won’t want to leave. Ramoji Film City has a curious way of making adults feel like children. For one day, deadlines disappear. Office meetings no longer matter.

Even history quietly steps aside.

All that remains is imagination.

Journey Back

As the return coach leaves the gates of Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad slowly reappears outside your window. Glass buildings replace movie sets. Real roads replace fictional towns. For a moment, you almost wish the journey could continue.

Then you realise something. Over the last four days, Hyderabad has shown you every one of its personalities.

It welcomed us with the military brilliance of Golconda Fort. It introduced us to the timeless charm of Charminar and the royal elegance of Chowmahalla Palace.

It invited us to slow down beside Hussain Sagar and Durgam Cheruvu.

And today, it reminded us that stories are not only found in history.

Sometimes, they are created on a film set.
